Play therapy is a wonderful way of conducting therapy with children and adolescents. Play is an essential part of childhood as it encourages social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. It enhances the sense of self, , helps in making sense of experiences, encourages communication and teaches about conflict resolution techniques. Therapy supports child and adolescents in understanding and expressing difficulties when language is not sufficient.
SPICC model for conducting child and adolescent therapy pulls together the best of a range of approaches into one that uses a variety of interventions, aimed at different stages in the child’s process of change. It incorporates the best of verbal counselling skills and creative media for working with younger clients. SPICC model works in 5 stages, each concentrating on a different stage of change.
